Finally, on day four of our trip, we are birding in TEXAS, at the feeders near the interpretive center at Davis Mountain State Park.
The past two days, we have stayed in two different ranches. As we arrive late in the night and leave early, we have not seen a single person!
Today, at Davis Mountain there weren’t a lot of birds at first. But then a range came and added some seed to the feeders. The site was suddenly bursted with bird chips and scrub-jay approached before even the ranger left! They must have knowledge of the routine of the range and are waiting in the pines for a while. As we look at the Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jays, tuns of Chipping Sparrow slowly arrive, but we cannot see a single Clay-collared.
After a while, another birder arrived and kindly recommended another feeding station in the park. There we got our first Black-crested Titmouse and even more Chipping Sparrow! Despite the flock and flocks of Chipping Sparrow, we cannot find any Clay, and at noon we have to leave for San Antonio.
After checking the displays in the interpretive center, it’s time to head to San Antonio, and South Texas would be close!
