Birding Road Trip to Texas – Day 10

After a crazy day at Santa Margarita, we are about to head back, but we still have a bird that we missed: the Clay-colored Thrush (which is also the National Bird of Costa Rica!).

After browsing eBird, we decided to try our luck at the National Butterfly Center after enjoying the feeders at Rancho Lomitas, where we stayed last night.

Upon arriving at the Butterfly Center, we are given a half price entrance fee due to the huge wind and no butterflies and tourists in such weather.

We walked the upper trail as the staff recommended, and about half way down, we spotted a thrush like bird on a berry tree. And after scanning the tree, we spotted another FIVE Clay-colored Thrushes!

We then rested at the feeding station and enjoyed the extremely cooperative Kiskadees and Orioles there!

After a while, we are on our way to San Antonio and we will be heading to New Mexico tomorrow!
